OMA The Winner of Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec

olitan Architecture has just win the international competition for the expansion of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec (MNBAQ). The $ 90 million Canadian dollars project had won 82 percent hearts of the local resident. A series of boxes piled up in size resemble the visual relationships of the Seattle library, while creating new relationships with the context that generates an interesting grand hall facing the street with urban qualities.

The three boxes correspond to the three galleries varies in size with contemporary exhibitions 2500 meters square area and permanent contemporary collection 1575 meters square. Their ambition is to produce something dramatic without neglecting the surrounding of the existing museum.

This cascade of galleries gives clarity to the courses and sections, while allowing the entry abundant natural light. The architectural design project will be lead by Rem Koolhaas and Shohei Shigematsu (partner, director of OMA NY), and will be working together with the local office Provencher Roy + Associés Architectes. It will be completed in the fall of 2013. This architectural design surely will be a breath taking astonishing dreamy building design and an ambitious architecture project.
