Megan Gale (born August 7, 1975) is an Australian model and actress.
Born in Perth, Western Australia. Megan Gale is of half-English, half-Polynesian heritage and is the youngest of three children and has two older brothers.[1][2] Megan Gale has been dating Australian comedian Andy Lee since January 2007.[3]
After winning a modelling competition in Perth at 18[2], Megan then moved to Sydney.[citation needed] After several years of modelling, Gale was cast to appear in a series of advertisements for the Italian telecommunications commercials, Omnitel (now Vodafone Italy); she appeared in the company's advertising from 1999 until now.[4] She was also retained by the Australian Tourist Commission in 2003 as 'their face of Australia in Italy'.[2]
Gale has modelled for Italian fashion houses such as Gianfranco Ferré, Genny and Gai Mattiolo and favours many Australian designers, such as Colette Dinnigan, Sass & Bide, and Alex Perry.[2][citation needed] Recently she was the fashion commentator for the Australian television awards, the Logies.[2][citation needed] She has been the face of the upmarket Australian department store David Jones since August 2001.[citation needed] Gale's appearances on the catwalk in the famous annual fashion parades are extremely popular and she has helped to raise David Jones' profile to the younger market and trendy fashion designers.[citation needed]
In January 2008, Gale announced her retirement from catwalk modelling after 15 years and strutted down the catwalk for the last time just weeks later at a David Jones winter collection launch in Sydney.[5] She has since been replaced on the catwalk by Victoria's Secret Angel Miranda Kerr[6] although is still contracted to the store as Brand Ambassador until 2011.[citation needed]
[edit] Acting
Megan Gale also tried her hand at acting and appeared in the movies Vacanze di Natale (as herself)[7] and Stregata Dalla Luna (as Vivianna).[8] She also won a cameo part in the 2005 movie Stealth where she played a role as Dr. Orbit's secretary.[8] In January 2008, it was announced that she had been offered the part of Wonder Woman in the upcoming George Miller movie version of Justice League of America before the project was put on hold.[4]
Gale has recently completed filming a role in her first Australian feature film, a romantic comedy titled, I Love You Too .
[edit] Television
In 2005, Gale became a guest reporter for Nine Network travel show Getaway from October 2005 to June 2006.[9] She also worked with Mike Munro as co-host of the nine-episode Australian documentary TV show What a Year, which first aired on the Nine Network on October 2, 2006.[9] In 2007, their respective replacements were Bert Newton and Julia Zemiro and the show has since been axed.[citation needed] Most viewers preferred Munro and Gale.[citation needed]
Reports suggested that Gale would take over hosting duties of the television series, Australia's Next Top Model in 2009.[citation needed] However the position was filled by Sarah Murdoch.[10] Gale also became the National Ambassador for Kids Help Line in February 2005.[11] She has recently been appointed the first official National Ambassador for The Red Cross.[citation needed]
